Wanted: A girl like Smita Patil

Wanted: A girl like Smita Patil

Nitin Desai is looking for someone resembling the late actress for his next

After Balgandharva, his period biopic on the late Marathi theater legend, veteran art director Nitin Desai is all set to begin his next venture this August.

Based on another real character and set against the backdrop of legendary Ajanta Caves, the producer says that he is hunting for some who looks like yesteryear's popular actress Smita Patil.

The film that he claims is in 'Minglish', a mix of Marathi and English, is based on a local adivasi girl called Paro. According to him, she played a very important role in rediscovering the crucial caves.

"It's widely known that Captain John Smith, the British officer for the Madras Presidency, accidentally discovered the entrance to one of the cave temples in April 1819," points out Nitin.

"In fact, there was a local adivasi girl called Paro, who played an important part in the British rediscovering the Ajanta Caves that later became renowned for exotic setting, impressive architecture and long-forgotten history," he quickly adds.

While he's yet to finalise the cast and crew for the ambitious project, ND admitted, that he wants to cast someone in the mould of the late Smita Patil for the character of Paro.

"We have managed to source some images of Paro and we feel someone with features like Smitaji would be apt for the role," he reveals.

Psst... have you considered Chitrangada Singh, ND?
